Avinshu Patel, who hailed from Mumbai, committed suicide in Chennai after he was derided for being gay.
Avinshu took to his personal Facebook account to share the badgering he had endured around him.
"Everyone knows I am a boy. But the way I walk, think and talk is like a girl," his post said. "People in India do not like that. Please do not blame my family. Help them. We are poor. I love my mom, dad and sister. I thank them for supporting me. It is not my fault that I was born gay."
Known as Avi by his companions, Avinshu, who worked at a salon in Chennai, uploaded the post around 10 pm. He then turned his phone off.
The following day, the locals discovered his body on the beach near his residence. His family have been notified, and they have shown up to take his body back.
The Neelankarai police have registered a case of drowning and are investigating his passing. Prior in the day, Avinshu had gone to the shopping center and sounded cheerful when he chatted with a friend on the phone. But after two hours he called the same friend and disclosed to him he is going to take his own life.
"He sent me a text around 2.30 afternoon saying he was at a mall with a friend," Avinshu's friend Ishaan Mastry told New Indian Express. "They had gone out for lunch. Just two hours later he called me and told me he wanted to end his life. He was crying."
"I tried calling him back, several times, but there was no answer," said Ishaan. "At around 10 in the night, he put up that Facebook post, after which his phone was switched off."
Meanwhile, the salon, where Avinshu had been working with for three months, helped the family travel to Chennai to return Avinshu's body to Mumbai.
