On September 24, 2011, Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" became the number one pop song in America. The Pop Princess recorded the song for her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale (2011).

The funky dance track was written and produced by Max Martin and Shellback, with additional writing by Savan Kotecha. A month before Femme Fatale's release, the 38-year-old singer first posted a link to a clip of the song on her Twitter account.

"I Wanna Go" was then chosen as the third single from the album following a poll on her official website. On June 13, 2011, Jive Records officially released it.

The lyrics of the song feature Spears singing about losing inhibitions. She sings, "Lately I've been stuck imaginin'/ What I wanna do and what I really think, time to blow out/ Be a little inappropriate 'cause I know that everybody's/ Thinkin' it when the lights out/ Shame on me/ To need release/ Un-uncontrollably."

"I Wanna Go" drew mixed to positive reviews from critics. On June 22, 2011, the music video for the song was posted to YouTube. Directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, the video has amassed more than 258 million views as of this writing.
