In India, the bride collapsed at her wedding and died. While the bride's body lay in the next room, her sister was getting married to her groom.

In Etawah city, Uttar Pradesh, a recent wedding ceremony ended tragically for the bride, Surbhi, who succumbed to a heart attack.

However, a second bride was in attendance: Nisha, her sister, as reported by MailOnline.

While Surbhi and her soon-to-be husband Mangesh Kumar were exchanging flower garlands in a traditional ceremony called the Jaimala, she collapsed on stage.

Unfortunately, the bride did not survive despite the doctor's best efforts. Families of both sides then agreed to replace Surbhi with her sister Nisha rather than put an end to the ceremony.

The body of Surbhi was cremated after being taken into a separate room during the wedding.

Ajab Singh, Surbhi's uncle, told MailOnline that it was difficult for the family to go ahead with the wedding.

Meanwhile, Surbhi's brother Saurabh said, “It's hard to believe a dead body was in the other room — and a bride was being prepared in the next one.”

Families' decisions could be explained by several factors. As for the groom's family, they most likely did not want to return from a wedding without a bride, while the bride's family expected a dowry.

Guddi Devi, the bride's mother, pleaded for the wedding to proceed. She has been in the care of her son Gaurav since the incident. Gaurav said his mother suffered terribly.
