Johnny Depp recently took to Instagram to reveal that he agreed to step down from his role as Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise spin-off "Fantastic Beasts" at the request of Warner Bros.

Depp, who is regarded as one of the most notable film stars, wrote: "I have respected and agreed to that request."

Depp's resignation comes after the Hollywood actor lost a libel lawsuit against the publishers of The Sun. The publishers reportedly had called him a "wife beater."

In his Instagram post, Depp said: "The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal."

According to reports, the actor is also suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for an article she wrote in the Washington Post in a separate U.S. case. Depp said Heard's article implied he was violent towards her.
