California Woman Charged with Attempted Murder for Abandoning Newborn Baby in Gas Station Trash Can



A woman from California has been charged with attempted murder after being accused by authorities of abandoning her newborn baby, who was only an hour old, in a trash can at a gas station and leaving the scene.

The Fullerton Police Department disclosed the arrest of Venissa Maldonado in relation to the incident that occurred on Thursday, in which the baby was discovered in a bathroom trash can at the gas station.

The location where Maldonado gave birth was not specified. Maldonado, aged 25, faces a single charge of felony child abuse, as stated in a press release.

There is no clarity on whether she has entered pleas to the charges or retained an attorney to comment on her behalf.

According to CBS News, a gas station worker discovered the infant boy inside a bag inside the garbage can, and emergency services provided life-saving treatment to the baby after arriving at the scene.

The outlet reports that the infant remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
