Ricky Martin Set to Make VMA History with Inaugural Latin Icon Award

Ricky Martin is poised to make a significant mark at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) as he is slated to receive the first-ever Latin Icon Award.

This new accolade recognizes his enduring influence and four-decade-long career, which has been instrumental in bringing Latin music and culture to a global audience.

The event, set to air live on September 7th from New York's UBS Arena, will also feature a special performance from the superstar, marking his return to the VMA stage after 25 years.

This historic moment coincides with the 25th anniversary of his iconic 1999 VMA performance, where he became the first male Latin artist to win Best Pop Video and took home five awards for his hit song "Livin' la Vida Loca."

His presence at this year's ceremony cements his status as a true pioneer who paved the way for future generations of Latin artists.

In addition to Ricky Martin, the 2025 VMAs will honor rapper Busta Rhymes with the inaugural Rock the Bells Visionary Award.

The lineup of performers also includes J Balvin, Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, and sombr. The show will be hosted by hip-hop icon LL Cool J.
