Tina Knowles, the mother of superstar Beyoncé, is sharing strong words about how country music has shut out Black artists for years.

In the new Peacock documentary High Horse: The Black Cowboy, Knowles talks about the lack of diversity in country music, saying the "gatekeeping in country music is unbelievable."

She said that when people criticize her daughter Beyoncé for doing country music, they are wrong.

The documentary, produced by Jordan Peele, also revealed a shocking moment Knowles experienced at the Kentucky Derby in 2024.

Knowles recalls waiting on the red carpet when a staffer stopped her and let a white couple go ahead of her, saying they "needed a..." Knowles finished the sentence: "...a white person?"

She called the event a "wake-up call" and said there is "a lot of racially charged energy" at these kinds of events.

The documentary aims to bring the true history of Black cowboys back into the light.
