The Grammy Awards are making major changes to their country music categories, and it involves one of the biggest albums of recent years. Beyoncé and her hit project Cowboy Carter have found themselves at the center of a brand new rule update by the Recording Academy.
Back at the Grammy Awards ceremony, Cowboy Carter made history by winning the award for Best Country Album. It was a massive moment because it marked the first time a Black woman ever took home the prize in that specific field.
However, the academy decided to shake things up shortly after that victory. Organizers announced that they were splitting the main category into two separate awards to better reflect how the genre changes over time.
Because of this update, the old category has been officially renamed Best Contemporary Country Album. At the same time, they created a brand new category called Best Traditional Country Album.
As a result of these new rules, Cowboy Carter has now been moved directly into the Best Contemporary Country Album group. Because it was the last project to win under the old single title, music fans are pointing out that she holds a very unique place in award history.
The sudden shift sparked heavy debates online among music lovers. Some supporters felt the change was a reaction to her historic win, while others believe it simply helps make room for many different styles of music to shine.
