The record quickly proved that her massive fanbase had stayed loyal through the years. Upon its release, the album shot straight to the number one spot on the US Billboard 200 chart.
It pulled in an impressive 116,000 equivalent album units during its first week alone. Out of that total, 109,000 units came from pure album sales, showing that fans still loved buying physical copies and digital downloads of her music.
This brilliant debut marked her seventh career album to reach the number one spot on the charts. It also placed her into a very rare group of music acts who managed to secure a number one album across four different decades.

Looking back, the project was extra special because it was her very first release under her own independent label, Rhythm Nation Records. Partnering with BMG, she took full creative control of her art while working closely with her longtime producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
The music itself received massive praise from critics and listeners alike. Songs like the smooth lead single "No Sleeep" featuring J. Cole and the upbeat title track reminded everyone why she remains a major force in pop and R and B music.
Over the years, the album has continued to find new listeners. It has steadily grown its footprint, selling over 700,000 total units in the United States alone through streaming and sales combined.
