Lady Gaga is "Grateful" for her MTV Video Music Awards Nominations


Gaga and Ariana Grande's collaboration, "Rain On Me," scored nominations in seven categories — best visual effects, best cinematography, song of the year, best collaboration, best pop, best choreography, and video of the year.

For this August's MTV Video Music Awards, Lady Gaga received nine nominations. The pop icon immediately took to social media to express her happiness for the new achievements.

"I am so grateful and so blessed to have 9 #VMAs nominations this year for my album Chromatica, for Rain On Me, and other performances I've given," Gaga wrote on Instagram. "This is such a difficult time for people all over the world, I really honor how lucky I am to have a day like today."

She added: "I hope you all will celebrate yourselves in this moment, everyone should be nominated for an award right now. For bravery, for courage, for the strong human spirit. God bless you and I love you thank you for this gift today."

Meanwhile, in the video of the year category, "Rain On Me" goes up against "The Man" by Taylor Swift, "Godzilla" by Eminem featuring Juice Wrld, "Everything I Wanted" by Billie Eilish, "Life Is Good" by Future featuring Drake, and "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd.

Gaga is also up for artist of the year and best quarantine album. She will compete against Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, DaBaby, Justin Bieber, and The Weeknd.


The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn on August 30. 

Gaga released "Chromatica" on May 29, and it blasted to No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The acclaimed album is Gaga's sixth leader on the chart.

"Chromatica" was originally scheduled for an April 10 release. However, it was pushed back due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.
