Florida Man Attacked & Injured by Alligator at RV Park in Brevard County



A 72-year-old man was attacked by an alligator and lost a portion of his right leg at Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort in Titusville, Brevard County, Florida on Friday.

NBC affiliate WESH and CBS affiliate WKMG-TV reported that the man was bitten just before 2 p.m. and his leg was pulled off by the reptile. Brevard County Fire Rescue officials were immediately informed of the incident.

Alligator Retreated into Water and Victim Airlifted to Medical Center

The alligator retreated into the water after the attack, as per WKMG-TV. According to WESH and Florida Today, the victim was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for treatment. Although his current condition remains unclear, the man lost his leg from the knee down during the attack.

Nuisance Alligator Trapper Responded to the Scene

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials said a nuisance alligator trapper was called to the scene after the attack, as reported by Florida Today. Following the incident, two alligators were trapped and killed by the FWC officials. However, it is uncertain whether either of them was involved in the attack.


Ron Peoples, a resident of the Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort, commented that alligators are commonly seen in the area during mating season, according to the WESH report. He advised residents to be respectful and cautious when encountering them.

FWC Officials yet to Comment on the Incident

The FWC and Brevard County fire officials have not yet commented on the incident to PEOPLE. However, an FWC officer recovered the victim's leg and foot from the water, as per WESH's report.
