Video: Four Killed and 28 Injured in Alabama Birthday Party Shooting

Authorities have confirmed that four people were killed and 28 others injured during a shooting that occurred at a birthday party in Alabama on Saturday evening.

The victims have been identified as Shaunkivia Smith, 17, Marsiah Collins, 19, Corbin Holston, 23, and Philstavious Dowdell, 18, according to Tallapoosa County Coroner Mike Knox.

Details of the Shooting

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett spoke at a news conference on Sunday evening, explaining that the incident took place at 10:34 p.m. on Saturday, in the 200 block of Broadnax Street in Dadeville. Burkett reported that some of the injuries sustained by the victims were critical.

According to Michael Taylor, a football coach at Dadeville High School, the party was being held for a cheerleader on campus. The DJ for the party, Keenan Cooper, reported that the mother of the girl was among the victims. Cooper described the incident as sounding like an attack carried out by multiple shooters.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects, nor have they provided details on a possible motive.

Reaction from the Community

Reacting to the tragedy, Cooper said: "It’s very horrific for the children." He added that the shooting occurred an hour after someone with a gun was turned away from the party.

Taylor reported that the event had both chaperones and security, and that the community of Dadeville was known for being tightly knit. Such an incident of violence was previously unknown to the area.

Venue Details

Although authorities did not identify the venue where the shooting took place, they did mention that the location was once a bank and is now the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
