In a harrowing incident on Sunday, a Florida fisherman fell victim to an unexpected attack by an alligator while on a Leesburg neighborhood golf-course pond.

According to reports from Fox 35, the New York Post, and Click Orlando, the 9-foot, 3-inch alligator lunged at the fisherman after he had successfully caught a fish in the pond.

Eyewitness Ron Priest recounted the terrifying ordeal to the local Fox affiliate, stating that the victim was face to face with the gator as he lay on the ground.

Priest described the frantic scene, noting that "the Gator got the guy in the hand, and the two rolled."

The severity of the situation prompted calls to 911, with Priest's wife being one of the first to report the incident.

In one dispatch call, a concerned caller described the unfolding chaos, informing the dispatcher of a gator attacking a man in their backyard, even noting the pause in golf cart traffic caused by the commotion.

Another caller provided crucial details to emergency services, informing them that the man was in distress and had suffered the loss of his hand due to the alligator's attack.

Following the brutal encounter, the alligator retreated into the pond, leaving the victim injured and in need of urgent medical attention.

A medical helicopter swiftly arrived at the scene, airlifting the injured fisherman to an Orlando hospital.

As of the time of this report, no updates on his condition were available.

In response to the incident, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission took swift action, trapping and removing the alligator from the pond.

The community remains on edge following the shocking event, serving as a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers posed by wildlife encounters in Florida's natural habitats.
