On February 9, Sam Asghari made news when he defended Britney Spears and criticized her father, Jamie Spears, after the premiere of "The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears."

In his Instagram Stories, Asghari wrote: "Now it's important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way.
"In my opinion Jamie is a total d**k. I won't be going into details because I've always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn't come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom."

Later, the actor told TMZ that things could be fine between the two of them once Jamie starts treating the Pop Princess right.

Meanwhile, Spears and Jamie have battled in court for months. Her lawyer said in November 2020 that she was afraid of her father and won't perform as long as her father is controlling her career.
For his part, Jamie claimed that he saved his daughter's life by pulling her out of financial ruin during her breakdown.
