Mason Dark Suffers Severe Burns After Attempting Dangerous TikTok Challenge

Mason Dark, a 16-year-old from North Carolina, sustained burns to 75% of his body while attempting a TikTok challenge.

The dangerous trend involved spraying highly inflammable paint aerosol into a lighter, which exploded and set Dark on fire, as reported by WRAL.

Despite jumping into a nearby river to extinguish the flames, Dark suffered severe burns and was rushed to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill for surgery.

Severe Burns and Lengthy Recovery

Doctors discovered that Dark's body was covered in third-degree burns, and he is now unrecognizable, according to his mother, Holli Dark, in an interview with WRAL.

An avid football player, Dark is expected to remain in the burn unit for six months, undergoing multiple surgeries and treatments to aid his recovery.

GoFundMe Set Up for Medical Bills and Expenses

Dark's family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of his medical bills and other expenses needed to aid his recovery.

The family has already raised $20,000 of their $25,000 goal, and Dark remains sedated in the hospital while undergoing his first of many surgeries.
