In an effort to maintain her mental health, 20-year-old singer Olivia Rodrigo has embraced a daily songwriting routine. The artist, known for her hit album "GUTS" released in September, shared that the practice allows her to stay connected with herself and process the complexities of her life.

"I try to write one song every day. I just feel like myself when I'm writing. If I don't do it, I get depressed. I'm just writing songs to process what's going on, whether in my personal life or in my perception of the world," Rodrigo revealed in an interview with Variety.

Reflecting on the challenges she faced while crafting "GUTS," Olivia admitted that the experience tested both her confidence and patience. The process taught her valuable lessons about songwriting, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the craft rather than waiting for inspiration to strike.

"It taught me about the mindset that is most conducive to writing. You can never sit down at the piano and try to write something that everyone will like; that always results in a really bad song. It taught me that I write songs that I want to hear," Rodrigo explained.

Despite her direct approach to songwriting, Rodrigo recently took on a unique challenge by contributing to the "Hunger Games" prequel film, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." Her single, "Can't Catch Me Now," was inspired by the film, and Olivia shared insights into her creative process.

"I watched the film first and then wrote the song. It was a really interesting challenge for me to write something from the perspective of a character in a movie because I feel like I'm very direct in my songwriting; I write about what's going on in my life. Even though I tore through the books as a kid, I didn't watch the films until this year," she revealed.

Olivia Rodrigo's commitment to daily songwriting not only serves as a therapeutic outlet but also showcases her dedication to the art of crafting authentic and meaningful music.
