Music Mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs Sentenced to Over Four Years in Prison Following Conviction

The long-running legal troubles for hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs culminated recently with his sentencing in federal court.

On Friday, October 3, 2025, a New York federal judge ordered Combs to serve 50 months in prison—a sentence of four years and two months—following his conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

He was also ordered to pay a fine and will face five years of supervised release after leaving prison.

The sentence comes three months after a jury in July convicted Combs of the two prostitution-related charges under the federal Mann Act, which prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.

Crucially, the jury acquitted him of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, which could have carried a life sentence.

The Trial and Conviction

The charges stemmed from accusations that Combs used his fame, power, and wealth to coerce two of his former girlfriends, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another woman identified as "Jane," into participating in drug-fueled sexual encounters with male sex workers.

During the nearly two-month trial, the prosecution presented harrowing testimony from over 30 witnesses, including the two former girlfriends, former employees, and others.

The evidence included the highly publicized 2016 hotel surveillance footage that showed Combs attacking Ventura in a hallway.

Combs, who has been incarcerated since his September 2024 arrest, received credit for the 13 months he has already served.

This means the 55-year-old could be released in approximately three years.

The Sentencing Hearing and Backstory

In court, Combs's defense lawyers had argued for leniency, requesting a sentence of no more than 14 months, which would have allowed for his immediate release due to time already served.

They cited his trauma, his charitable work, and his newfound sobriety while incarcerated.

Combs himself apologized in court, expressing remorse for his actions and stating, "My actions were disgusting, shameful and sick. I was sick. Sick from the drugs."

However, prosecutors pushed for a far longer sentence—over 11 years—calling Combs an "unrepentant" "master puppeteer" and citing his long history of abuse and violence. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who handed down the sentence, acknowledged Combs's positive impact on communities but stressed that a substantial sentence was necessary for deterrence and to serve as an example.

He specifically told the two victims who testified, "We heard you."

The conviction and subsequent sentencing represent a major turning point in the career of one of hip-hop's most influential figures, a man who built a vast empire that spanned music, fashion, and media.

Despite the conviction on the prostitution-related counts, the legal saga may not be over, as Combs's legal team has indicated plans to appeal the sentence.

Furthermore, as of October 2025, he faces at least other civil lawsuits related to sexual misconduct.
