Renowned singer-songwriter Charlie Puth has been candid about his sexuality, with some of his songs even revolving around this aspect of his life. During an interview with Interview Magazine, conducted while he was in the midst of an international tour promoting his latest album, the artist discussed his music and his open attitude towards sex. The conversation eventually led to a particular encounter that served as inspiration for the track "Mark On My Neck."

Charlie revealed that he wrote the song while in the midst of a passionate moment, prompting him to momentarily pause and record a quick voice note. Reflecting on the experience, he humorously admitted, "Maybe I should have focused on the act a little bit more, but the melody just kind of popped into my head... then had to get back into the act."

The four-time Grammy nominee explained that at the time, he was recovering from a past relationship and believed that the best way to move on was by meeting new people. While he was aware that things might not work out with this person, what mattered to him was the overall experience.

"I remember waking up and looking at myself in the mirror, noticing these marks on my neck, and every day they’d heal and fade but so would the person who put them on me. And we went our separate ways," Charlie recalled. "I’m thankful for the experience and maybe they are as well but I just thought it was interesting that a person can fade away at the same pace of the scars on your neck."

Charlie also discussed other risqué topics during the interview, such as his fascination with thirst traps, his acceptance of body positivity, and his preferred sex playlist. Among the songs he mentioned were Roy Ayers' tunes, Delegation's "Oh Honey," and Miles Davis' "Blue in Green." He expressed his desire to have intimate moments while listening to the latter track, especially if it happens to be snowing or raining outside in his New York City apartment. For him, jazz always sets the right mood, while he consciously avoids playing hip-hop in such scenarios, as it feels too predictable, like having Drake playing in the background.

In addition to "Mark On My Neck," Charlie's album titled "Charlie" features several other notable tracks, including "Light Switch," "That's Hilarious," "Smells Like Me," "I Don't Think That I Like Her," "Charlie Be Quiet!," "Loser," and a collaboration with BTS' Jungkook titled "Left and Right."
