Global superstar Shakira is getting very honest about the struggles of being an immigrant in America today.
In a recent interview with the BBC, the Colombian singer shared that for many people, being an immigrant right now "means living in constant fear."
She said it is "painful to see" how much things have changed since she first moved to the U.S. at age 19.
Shakira remembered arriving in Miami as a teenager, using dictionaries to learn English and reading poetry to understand the language.
While she felt welcomed back then, she says the current environment feels much more difficult and hostile for those coming to the country for a better future.
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer is calling for everyone to stay united and treats others with kindness.
She said that while a country can change its laws, the way it treats people should always be humane.
Do you agree with Shakira that we need to show more kindness and support to immigrant communities?
