Rihanna Breaks Record for Most Platinum Awards by Woman of Color, Surpassing Beyoncé


Oh no, looks like Rihanna just snatched the crown from Beyonce's head!

Not even two months after Queen Bey broke records with her 40th Platinum plaque, Rihanna swoops in and outshines her with fan favorites from her last album.

And just in case anyone forgot who the undisputed Queen of Digital Music is, the RIAA confirmed that Rihanna's cumulative digital single sales in the US are now at a whopping 161.5 million.

But that's not all, hunty. Thanks to her hits "Same Ol Mistakes" and "Higher," Rihanna now holds a total of 42 Platinum awards for singles from the RIAA – making her the woman of color with the most Platinum awards in history.

Only Taylor Swift, with 49 Platinum-certified singles, is ahead of her. And don't even get us started on the multi-Platinum plaques – Rihanna now owns 34 of them, more than any other act in history (sorry, Drake).

And we haven't even mentioned the Super Bowl yet. With her halftime show performance still fresh in our minds, it's no surprise that Apple Music and iTunes activity has been off the charts.
