While many of her fans praised her efforts, a netizen questioned her advocacy in light of her Christian faith.
In response to the criticism, Catriona clarified that her Christian beliefs do not limit her from supporting the rights of others.
She affirmed her love for God and her fellow human beings and emphasized that religion should never be used as an excuse to discriminate, hate, or act indifferently towards the suffering of others.
In her words, "I believe God is love, and I will treat everyone - no matter who they are - to the best of my ability, with love."
In spite of the criticism, members of the LGBTQIA+ community rallied behind Catriona, applauding her for taking a stand and supporting their cause.
It is worth noting that even before winning the Miss Universe crown, Catriona had been an ardent supporter of Love Yourself Inc., a community of volunteers dedicated to providing HIV counseling, testing, treatment, and life-coaching services, among others.
