Tom Holland's co-star in the upcoming "Romeo & Juliet" production is facing harsh criticism online, and the director is stepping in to address the issue.

Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, who will play Juliet alongside Tom, has been targeted with racist and hurtful comments on various platforms ever since the casting announcement.

People are making negative remarks about her appearance and fashion choices, which is very unkind and upsetting.

The Jamie Lloyd Company, the theater group behind the play, has spoken out against this online abuse.

They stated, "Following the announcement of our 'Romeo & Juliet' cast, there has been a barrage of deplorable racial abuse online directed towards a member of our company. This must stop."

Although the company didn't mention Francesca by name, it's clear they are referring to her, given that she was recently announced as the lead alongside Tom.

Tom has been involved in the project since February, and this wave of online harassment has only just begun.

The company emphasized their commitment to supporting and protecting everyone involved in the production.

They made it clear that any form of abuse will not be tolerated and will be reported.

They stressed that bullying and harassment have no place in the online world, the entertainment industry, or in wider society.

Despite the controversy, the Jamie Lloyd Company assured fans that the show will go on as planned.

They want to focus on delivering a great performance of the classic drama and move away from the negativity surrounding the casting.

"Romeo & Juliet" is scheduled to debut at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London this May, and tickets have already sold out.

So far, Tom Holland has not publicly addressed the situation regarding Francesca.
