Kelly Clarkson has called upon NFL announcers and fans to refocus their attention on the game itself and steer away from the whirlwind of attention surrounding pop sensation Taylor Swift's romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

During an episode of her show on Friday, where she was interviewing Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang, the 41-year-old singer expressed her concerns about the growing celebrity couple overshadowing the actual sports coverage. "It's not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now," lamented the singer.

Clarkson didn't mince words in her criticism of recent game coverage, saying, "It's like you're watching Housewives while you're watching, and they're just talking about gossip things, and you're like, 'So what about the play?'"

The surge in NFL viewership following Taylor Swift's appearance at the Chiefs vs. Bears game on September 24 has been remarkable. Swift's dedicated fan base, known as the Swifties, has been eagerly tuning in to catch a glimpse of the superstar in one of the skyboxes.

The NFL seems to acknowledge the value of this star-studded association, going as far as changing its name on the social media platform "X" (formerly known as Twitter) to "NFL (Taylor’s Version)."

Bowen Yang, who shared his experience of the unexpected 'Trayvis' appearance on SNL, echoed Kelly Clarkson's sentiments. "It was so wild. We didn’t expect them to come," the comedian explained.

He recounted his surprise when he encountered the celebrity couple at the page desk. Bowen also disclosed his admiration for Taylor Swift, having experienced one of her packed Eras concerts firsthand.

Amidst the NFL's celebrity-driven viewership surge, Kelly Clarkson's appeal stands as a crucial reminder: prioritize the game itself, where the true excitement unfolds.
